Votre visite de Bucarest commence sur la place de l'université. Imprégnez-vous de son histoire socio-politique avant de partir pour une courte promenade jusqu'à la Strada Batistei, anciennement connue comme le « Saint-Germain » de Bucarest et le site de l'ancienne ambassade américaine. Notre premier arrêt sera une ravissante maison de ville de la fin du XIXe siècle restaurée mais qui conserve une impression de délabrement élégant typique à Bucarest. Sous les arbres et les vignes d'où pendent des grappes de raisin, vous pourrez déguster une sélection de mets roumains (gustari), parmi lesquels du fromage de chèvre, de la charcuterie, des oignons nouveaux, du pain maison et des bières artisanales brassées localement, et vous pourrez vous détendre et vous imprégner de l'atmosphère de ce petit lieu discret et plein de charme.
Pour nous aider à digérer tous ces délices, nous partirons ensuite vers le quartier arménien. Les Arméniens formaient une communauté marchande dynamique et prospère aux XVIIIe et XIXe siècles grâce à leur rôle important « d'intermédiaires » avec les Ottomans. Installé autour de l'église arménienne, leur mahala (quartier) présente une spectaculaire variété de styles architecturaux de toute l'Europe et de l'Empire ottoman : classique, Belle époque, moderniste, néo-roumain, balkanique. En passant par le vieux quartier juif, nous nous arrêterons ensuite pour le plus célèbre plat de cuisine de rue, covrigi, avant de découvrir l'un des plus beaux et des plus paisibles quartiers de la ville : Mantuleasa.
Après avoir exploré la ville de Bucarest du XIXe siècle et de l'entre-deux-guerres, nous nous arrêterons pour une weissbier roumaine glacée, dans un espace qui ne peut être décrit que comme un jardin d'été à la fois galerie d'art et librairie, avant de découvrir la quintessence des transports en commun de Bucarest : un court trajet en tramway. En longeant la célèbre rue Mosilor, vous entrerez dans la ville communiste de Bucarest, avec ses pâtés de maisons et ses cités réglementés, tandis que vous vous dirigez vers le célèbre marché Obor.
Arrêtez-vous pour prendre un verre de palinca (brandy) traditionnel roumain et ainsi préparer votre palais. Ensuite, nous entrerons dans le marché couvert pour déguster toute une gamme de fromages roumains : de vache, de brebis et de chèvre. Ensuite, nous nous rendrons au marché aux légumes, au milieu d'une multitude de couleurs et de textures, pour déguster et photographier les produits frais locaux.
Le plat probablement le plus célèbre et typique de la gastronomie roumaine, du moins pour les Roumains, s'appelle mici, ce qui signifie « petit ». Il s'agit d'une sorte de saucisse sans peau, servie avec de la moutarde et de la bière fraîche. Et enfin, comme votre aventure gastronomique ne serait pas complète sans dessert, nous prendrons un beignet valaque sucré avant de vous laisser rentrer chez vous comblé.

Cristina was our guide. She was knowledgeable and gave us lots of information about the culture, the architecture and the food. It was just my husband and I and we felt that we not only learned and tasted many things, we felt that Chris went out of her way to make our tour enlightening and enjoyable.

I highly recommend this tour for anyone looking for a behind the scenes view of Bucharest together with some great food. It was the best tour I took during my entire stay. Bogdan had a wealth of information to share about the history of the city and I walked away feeling like I knew significantly more about Bucharest than when I started - count yourself lucky if you get him as your guide. I recommend taking this tour towards the start of your trip to best take advantage of the background provided. Note that this is a walking tour, so be prepared to walk for a couple hours - you will be rewarded with fresh food from the market at the end.

This tour was pretty comprehensive and the guide was able to talk through several neighborhoods and the finer points of Romanian cuisine.

We joined Dana and some other travellers, and the torrential rain. Thankfully the rain stopped while we were in the the first bar. We found Dana good humoured, interested in us all, and a font of knowledge about her City. We booked the tour because it was our first visit to Bucharest, and would recommend it. Dana was not only keen to talk about her Country, but also gave people recommendations about where to visit next, restaurants near where people were staying etc

Dana led us through some quiet residential neighborhoods of Bucharest and pointed out some architectural styles and stories behind the owners of the buildings. She had a lot of historical info to share and was happy to answer our many questions. The participants got along very well and really enjoyed the great selection of foods we'd gathered at a local market. The picnic was amazing. We also enjoyed a visit to a ruin bar and had a chance to ride the street car. Bucharest is an awesome city to visit.

Brilliant tour around the Mahallas and Markets of Bucharest with our guide Elena. We saw sights that we would not have noticed by ourselves and Elena explained everything to us very clearly in perfect english. We had breakfast in a bistro - with a delicious craft beer - and lunch on a terrace near the market after Elena bought some fresh food from that market. We ate the food (Mici, cheese, tomatoes, peppers, bread) with some more beer and also a sour cherry brandy drink (both delicious). This was followed by a lovely donut from a local bakery. The tour lasted nearly 5 hours but not all walking as eating and drinking plus tram rides were all included in the tour. Excellent value and excellent tour. Fully recommended.
