If I had to do it again, I would get some changing clothes, get a towel, pack some hygienic product, get a private car or Taxi and leave my hotel by 6:00 am. You could do Totumo and the Pink Sea in less than 4 hours. GUIDE: Charlie did a fantastic job at leading this trip. He was friendly, funny, informative and outgoing. SIGHTS Totumo was too crowded. The pink sea was a huge highlight of the trip. TOUR Some general feedback to improve the trip: (1) tourists should not be obliged to pay for services they did not ask for. For example: a) Getting a massage from the men inside the Totumo volcano. b) Receiving a ”wash down" from the women in the river. c) Getting your picture taken from the young men It would have been better if they ask for permission first. Otherwise it feels like a way to get more money from tourist. Right after we were done, some of the women and young men came after us to make sure, they got their money. It felt like a tourist trap. (2) Tourist should not be forced to do things they are not comfortable with. a) Having the ladies gather around the Galerazamba statue and having us say 'Female Power' is not something that everyone wants to do. b) Having/Forcing ladies participate in the cultural dance (the one after we had lunch) is not something everyone wants to do. c) Having tourist partake in ‘games’ they are not interested in. c) Instructing tourist (at Totumo sight) to being comfortable to ‘take off their clothes' in front of everyone can make people uncomfortable. You have to respect people’s privacy and comfort level. It would have been better if they ask for permission first. (3) Tourists could be instructed to get towels and dress adequately before the trip. a) Explain to tourist that there is only 1 toilet/changing space at the Totumo sight. b) Encourage tourists to bring another set clothes/shoes/socks and some hygienic products.

We read many reviews about the Mud Volcano and Pink Sea and were really unsure however we booked it anyway because "when in Rome".... Our day was amazing. Jelly, our tour guide, was all smiles and so nice. Her English was pretty good but not fluent. The bus ride allowed views of the real Colombia outside of Cartagena. The Mud Volcano was a great experience. We arrived and relaxed for a bit in one of establishments which had old tables, plastic chairs and a older gentlemen who was our host. We had a chance to change in the scary bathroom or kitchen and then head to the Volcano (you leave everything behind except your swimsuit). The steps up and down the Volcano were not nearly as rickety or dangerous as many reviewed. Once at the top of the Volcano we descended into the Mud one by one. Everyone was amazed that you floated. We were all respectful of one another and had a great time as we coated ourselves in the mud, received massages and relaxed while chatting with the other members of the group. Getting out was a bit tricky, holding on to the ladder, while one of the workers scraped some of the mud off and holding up your swimsuit all at once. Next we walked down to the water, it is quite green but we walked right in as guided by one of the women who were eager to clean us. The women were kind and did a great job while being pretty respectful . They will advise you to remove your suit so they can wash it, but they allowed you privacy from others and you are in the water. We were then treated to Huevos and Plantains. The first stop on the tour was quite the experience. Then we went to the Museum, this is where the language barrier was noticed, there was a lady at the Museum who would speak in English and then our guide did her best to translate. I would have preferred just to look around rather than have all of the commentary. Next was the Catalina statue, this included more difficult commentary. Next was the Salt Mine/Pink Sea which was another amazing experience. The water on one side was more red and then the other side more pink. We walked around, took photos, some people got in the water, we made wishes and we boarded the bus to leave. Lastly we went back to the restaurant for food and music and dancing which Jelly had us join in. It was so much fun, thanks to Jelly. This tour was well worth the money and was a great day trip from Cartagena.

Highly recommend this tour! Initially started off the trip at the wrong location climbing in a taxi not meant for us....but our guide Charlie was there to pick us up w/in minutes. First stop was mud Vulcano, very cool experience...followed by learning a few local traditions and visiting a museum. Last, was the pink sea. Wow! Nothing short of a wonderful tour w/a friendly, knowledgeable and great tour guide!
