I booked this little adventure as it was my 50th birthday and wanted an experience to remember and I will for sure. Our driver Saidi picked us up from the hotel and off we set to pick up the others in our group of 8. We absolutely loved everything about this trip, driving through the Atlas Mountains, the scenery is simple stunning and stopping often for bathroom breaks, refreshments and lunch. You also visit a couple of historic places briefly. You do have to pay extra for lunch and for guides but it really is very cheap. You do get asked a lot to go into shops but they are not pushy people and are very polite if you say no. My Mum and I were a little worried about the camels as we are not the fittest of people but we managed to get on and stay on!! It was a very proud moment, lol my mum is in her seventies. You have to remember this is a short trip. It is quite a long way to travel in the car from Marrakesh but 100 percent worth it, the desert camp was simply amazing with clean toilets and showers, great food and music entertainment. You have to buy your drinks at camp also. It is a little slice of a desert experience as you are on the edge of the Zagora desert, so if you want to travel and have sand dunes all around then take a longer one. Thanks again to Saidi our lovely driver who was helpful at all times and very knowledgeable. The only thing that we found hard was how hot it was overnight and we had to come out of the tent and sleep outside but after all you are in the desert so can’t complain and it was all part of the experience. I would recommend this trip for sure.
The journey to the desert is a crazy ride but at no point did I my safety was jeapordized. We had a driver, Omar, I think who was a pro on the road. However, maybe he could explain a little bit as he drove along. We stopped at a couple of places for photo stops. The view is gorgeous! We also went to the UNESCO heritage site which was the filming location for many movies. The Camel riding through the desert was a splendid experience. But what blew my mind away was actually our accommodation that night, we stayed in tents. Before that we were served a scrumptious dinner spread and were entertained by Berber live music performance. And they let us play their drums although I was off beat the whole time. Prior to dinner we sat with one of the Berber guys and he gave quite a detailed explanation bout the history of berbers. He also answered our questions. At this point, when you look up in the night sky, you would see millions of stars. So bright and beautiful. Day 2 - I expected a little bit more but nope it was just a drive back to Marrakech. Overall great experience.
It was an amazing experience!!! The driver and all the local guides were very nice and friendly. Camel ride during sunset was breathtaking!!!
The van ride out to Zagora and the different sightseeing stops were excellent. The drive through the Atlas mountains was beautiful. We stopped at a small restaurant for lunch and it was good. You cannot beat the value of this trip. The camel ride was fun (a little uncomfortable) but you do not ride that long. The tent camp was well set up and the food was very good. The washrooms were way better than I expected. Here are the downsides: the beds are very hard and the tents are VERY hot. I was willing to give the review a 5 because everything else about the trip was so great even if you cannot sleep well.
This was the most AMAZING experience, it is a lot of time in the car for just a 24 hour period, but with all the stops along the way you hardly notice. I am so glad I took the plunge and booked this tour. Our driver Mouhsine was the BEST, if you have the opportunity to request a driver, I'd request him. He was funny and informative but also let us nap instead of peppering us with information the whole time. He was always willing to stop for pictures when we asked and was really good about letting us know when there was one coming up. He also helped us translate at lunch and when we made some souvenir shopping stops. I cannot say enough good things about this tour and especially Mouhsine!
The camel trek to the camp and the one night at camp were the best parts of the trip. The eight hour drive to the camp is too much, the driver didn't say a word for eight hours and played the same ten songs in a row. We only stopped every 2 1/2 hours to get coffee, and use the restroom for 15 minutes. The one stop at Kasbah Aït Ben Haddou was a scam. When you get out of the van they say you have an hour to explore on your own, then they hand you off to a guide. The guide directs you over sand bags to cross a river so the kids waiting there can get money to hold you hand so you don't fall in. There is a perfectly good bridge, don't fall for this! At lunch the guide informs you it's 30dhs per person for the tour plus tips, the tour you didn't ask for. The whole trip costs twice as much as you pay on viator. You are asked for tips every stop, they also charge you to pee. You have to pay for all your meals, coffee, snacks... bring at least 1000dhs for two people. I really loved the camp, the Berbers were amazing hosts, friendly and fun. I wouldn't do it again because of the constant push for money, and the van driver who didn't have one thing to say about where we were. Also he stopped only once for pictures of the mountains.
Nice driver, nice experience - bit touristic, but that's what we payed for :
