Volcano Cayambe is the 3rd highest volcano in Ecuador (5790m’ high). It is located in the Cayambe – Coca Ecological Reserve in the Cordillera Oriental of the Andes, 70′ north-east of Quito. At the altitude of 4690m’ on its south slope, is the highest point in the world crossed by the Equator and the only point on the Equator with snow cover. From the Cayambe you can see the landscape of the northern hills of Quito and surrounding cities.
This tour goes to a height of 5000m’. It is important that you are prepared for this kind of altitude. We recommend acclimatizing at least two days around 3000m’.
Important: For the use of bicycles, you will be kindly asked to sign a document that you accept responsibility of the good use of the bicycle and asked to let an identity document that will be given back after the tour. Thanks for your understanding.
06:45: Leave from Plaza Foch for transfer to the Cayambe Ecological Reserve
09:00: Breakfast in a local restaurant
09:30: Enter to Cayambe – Coca Ecological Reserve
10:00: Arrival to the parking lot and hike up towards the refuge
10:45: Reaching the refuge. Have a rest
11:45: Reaching the glacier to observe Condors and enjoy the beautiful view over the Cayambe Ecological Reserve (height 5000m’)
12:30: Start of the downhill route with the mountain bikes from 4300m’ – 2850m’
14:00: Lunch in Hosteria PapaGayo Norte
15:30: Drive back to Quito
17:30: Arrive at Plaza Foch (initial point)
