This was a good tour. We had a ton of food and learned a lot. The reason for only 3 stars was this did not feel like an official tour. The tour guide just showed up at the restaurant and places with no prior arrangements...so we had to wait in line for almost all the places and wait for our food. To this point it was a little stressful and LONG - it lasted almost 4 hours!! We also added it up and we could have gone on our own food tour and just did what our tour guide did for cheaper. But the guide was very insightful to Iceland and we got a lot of culture, insights and information we could not have gotten without the tour. All in all I would recommend this tour but just align your expectations to be crowded and wait in line and that it might take much longer than mentioned. The other thing to note is the meeting point was very confusing. We were told to meet in front of a certain Hotel however the others in our group were told to meet in front of the Pillars in town square.

You HAVE to be hungry to take this food tour. I THOUGHT I was hungry but by the third stop I was full and the remaining stops didn't have the same appeal. I would recommend that when the tour guide stops to purchase the food selections, if you're with another person--SHARE one order at each stop. After the third stop my wife and I were sharing one selection. Some of the foods were much more enjoyable than others. The hots dogs are top notch, the lamb soup is excellent, and the lobster soup and bread is outstanding. The puffin I did NOT care for--extremely salty, cold, and not to my liking. I could have passed on that. The rolled pancakes were not bad but nothing special, literally rolled pancakes with sugar. The fermented shark meat proved to be the single most distasteful food item I've eaten in my lifetime. Not in this trip, not in my adulthood, not in my married life, but in my entire 59-year lifetime. I would counsel all future Food Lovers Small Group Walking Tourists to PASS on this selection. It is a sample of fermented shark meat about the half the size of a die you'd roll in a game of chance. But believe in THIS game EVERYONE loses. It smells like ammonia, and tastes like a chewy piece of flavorless meat SOAKED in AMMONIA and URINE. I had an upset stomach for the rest of the day. Ignore what the guide tells you and trust someone that tried it....PASS!!!! Our guide was extremely friendly and he will answer any and all questions you pose about the food or the culture in Iceland. The way is works is you walk around to various pubs, restaurants, and street vendors and the guide pays for each of you to sample one item commonly enjoyed in Iceland. But again I'd counsel that you SHARE one item each place, excluding the fermented shark, that way you won't be so full so fast and you'll enjoy the later selections must more.

Valor is an amazing guide. He was able to encompass history with food. We tried many food groups, some of which I never would have tried. Some we liked and some we didn't, sheep testicles. My husband and I even went back to the restaurant , Hressingarskal Inn Bistro Pizzeria, for dinner one nite. This tour is a great way to see the city from a local perspective. I have a better appreciation for Icelandic food and preparation. Thanx for a wonderful experience in Reykjavik food.

This food lovers tour was definitely the hi-light of our trip. Our guide Valor was personable, knowledgeable on both the history and customs of Iceland and educated us on these as well things as well as the food. The food choices were excellent. We ate some extremely interesting foods from puffin to lamb soup to fermented shark to Icelandic version of hot dogs to pastries to whale to lobster soup and finishing off with beer and skyr. Outstanding value for the money, good education and all around a fantastic afternoon. We would highly recommend this tour.
