We had an excellent time, travelling from Munich to Salzburg, Austria, by train. Tom was our tour guide and did an excellent job taking care of us, from the ticket booth at the station to the end. He gave us a detailed history of the town, pointed out key sites on our walking tour, and gave us free time to go back and explore the stuff that was most interesting to us. We can appreciate it better when we have the extra insight and depth of knowledge. I would recommend it to anyone!

My sister and I booked this tour and found it to be a very enjoyable visit to Salzburg. The Radius Tours office was easily located in the Munich Hauptbahnhof due to the clear directions provided. Upon arrival in Salzburg our tour guide S, provided an hour and a half walking tour. She was very friendly, knowledgeable and provided a lot of information. Since there were so many points of interest we were on the move nearly the whole tour - be prepared to walk a lot. We then had 3 hours of free time to explore on our own. We chose to take the funicular to the fortress overlooking Salzburg and ate lunch at the Panorama Restaurant. Excellent goulash, service and view of the city made this a memorable meal for us. And then the adventure began. Our morning train was a local with several stops but we understood S to say that our trip back would be direct to Munich. Upon boarding for our return trip as did not give us our tickets but told us to let the conductor know we were with her. Of our tour group of 24 a half a dozen of us were seated in a separate area of the train from the rest of our group. It was not a direct train but again a local with several stops. Halfway through the trip back the train came to a sudden stop. And there we stayed for 4 hours. The train had had a computer failure and the engineer tried in vain to repair it. He made announcements periodically (in German) about the problem but S did not come at all to check on us or provide us any information. We relied on a guide from a different tour to translate for us and keep us informed. Confusion set in when another train bound for Munich pulled up alongside and stopped. We began to see people from our train standing on that train, including S! We felt abandoned with no tickets when that train pulled away. Soon another train was sent and we were evacuated to it, arriving in Munich 5 hours late. Radius Tours was not at fault. However, we felt that S did not handle the situation appropriately. Overall, we had a wonderful trip to Salzburg and recommend Radius Tours. The train fiasco is unlikely as a regular occurrence.

Our family experienced an amazing Day Trip Tour to Salzburg! Our tour guide Paul Riedel was fantastic! His special talents as a guide enriched this tour tremendously! I really enjoyed his singing on the train. He gave us solid history briefing of Salzburg. I appreciated his knowledge of the arts and music of the are! I liked how he offered to guide us after the official tour! We enjoyed the lunch with him, shopping and visiting a stellar hotel where we enjoyed coffee and cake! He always looked out for everyone’s needs and was very patient! Thank you Paul for such a great day!

Our return train ride from Salzburg to Munich was a disaster. After spending a pleasant afternoon in Salzburg our train broke down on the way back to Munich. Our tour guide Sabina left some of her group which we were a part of on a hot sweltering train in the middle of nowhere. We sat on the train without a/c and no bathrooms. She saw another train jumped out leaving us behind. While other tour guides stayed and comforted their group and provided information. She left us in a very precarious situation, all information, was given in German and we needed her. We were rescued by the fire department. We were in a very dangerous situation and she was not THERE.

Our tour guide was Paul. He was very knowledgeable about Salzburg and gave us much information. He also sang karaoke to "The Sound of Music" songs while on the train - and while not always on pitch, his enthusiasm was remarkable, considering how often he must do this! (I wonder what other train passengers thought, though, and how annoyed they might be.) He took us to a great place for lunch and gave appropriate amounts of time. It was near-record heat and he was very considerate of people who were struggling in the heat. Overall, a great day!

It was a pleasant and fun trip! The most attractive landmark for me is Mirabell Gardens. Walking in the flowery garden and listening to opera coming from the Mozart University is purely an enjoyment! Great trip!

The tour had 33 people on it, which was too many. The tour guide needed some kind of a voice box in order for the people to hear the presentation. The group was broken into two for going.back to Munich which was sort of strange.

Shows the principals attractions in Salzburg. Leave enough time to visit the main attractions and to eat something. Our guide was Suzanne, very friendly and smiling.

A nice tour. The tour guide informative. Need to inform others of the long, steep walk to the Abbey. The area was pretty but would have like to see more of where the Sound of Music was done.

This was an amazing trip! Well worth it. We enjoyed the intro to the area and our guide was very knowledgeable. We also loved having time for the two of us to have lunch in the fortress without the group.

Our tour had roughly 30 people, which wouldn’t qualify as a small group by any standard. When the group fills up more than one train car and spills over into another that’s a pretty good indicator it’s a large group. The result was the myriad of issues you’d expect from a larger group. Hard to keep things organized, not everyone can hear the guide providing info, hard to keep the group together, etc. As for the tour itself, it’s a 2 hr train ride to Salzburg, a 90 min “orientation tour” of the city (which means you walk around and some fairly random points of interest are pointed out, but not in any depth) and then roughly 3 hours to see things at your own pace. Might as well have saved the cost of the tour, bought a ticket to Salzburg and Googled the various points of interest. Our particular guide was intent on being on the train at least 30 mins early, which extended a very long tour even longer. The approach made some sense on the way there but not so much on the way back. Just overly rigid. Last thing... next to no Sound of Music stops or info on this tour. Extremely disappointing experience, which is fairly unusual for Viator as we’ve used them several times in the past with really informative guides and had a great time. Recommend skipping this tour in favor of DIY or a different provider.

We were a group of 10 (5 couples) and booked this tour on the basis that it would have been for a small group as advertised and having read on Viator's website that a small group means 8-16 people. The group comprised 32 persons(!). On a positive note, the guide was interesting and helpful.

Paul was such a great tour guide—funny, friendly, and most of all very knowledgeable about the history of Munich and Salzburg! People who love history will enjoy his commentary. He also provides great recommendations for your free time. He is such a hard worker and strives to ensure that everyone enjoys the trip!

The tour guide Tom was terrific. He provided a insightful talk on the train and a quick overview of he city during a one hour walking tour. He was courteous and had a great sense of humor. He made the experience quite enjoyable. Salzburg deserves a slightly longer visit though. Would recommend staying the night. But if you only have the day this tour is perfect.

Our guide was knowledgeable and gave recommendations. Group was appropriate in size and travel was seamless. Great tour and glad we had adequate free time for lunch and shopping the Christmas Market and other shops in Salzburg. Only recommendation would be to leave earlier from Munich to have more time in Salzburg.

Susan was our guide. Salzburg was beautiful. Just it rained all day that it was hassle to walk around with umbrella and shop at Christmas stores. Christmas shop was really really wonderful. They had a lot of unique quality products.

We did a day trip from Munich to Salzburg. Ian was great... super knowledgable, friendly and entertaining. He utilized time on the train to walk through the history in depth, and then gave us a big overview of Salzburg when we were there giving us plenty of free time to do what we wanted and/or spend more time in a particular site.

Salzburg is so close to Munich - I am really happy we booked this day trip. It was well organized and easy. Our guide, Venela was AWESOME. She was personable and very knowledgeable. She even gave us recs for other things to do in Munich after the tour was over. Salzburg is like a fairy tale place, we are already planning to go back and spend more time there.
